Richard Bounds

Dr. Bounds is originally from a small town on the lower eastern shore of Maryland, and was the first in his extended family to graduate from college. He attended Loyola University in Baltimore, where he was the captain of the rowing team and competed on a national level. Dr. Bounds received his medical training at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, then completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, where he served as chief resident.

After graduation in 2007, Dr. Bounds joined the clinical faculty of Doctors for Emergency Service, staffing the Christiana Care Health System’s emergency departments. He is board certified in emergency medicine and holds a current medical licensure in Delaware. Since 2010, Dr. Bounds has been the Associate Program Director for the Emergency Medicine Residency at Christiana Care.

Dr. Bounds is a member of the Medical Society of Delaware, the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine, the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, the Council of Residency Directors in Emergency Medicine, and the Wilderness Medical Society. He served as the President of the Delaware Chapter of ACEP in 2013 and 2014.

Bedside and clinical teaching gives Dr. Bounds his greatest satisfaction, and he has been recognized as the Teacher of the Year multiple times, as well as a Rising Star Educator in 2014. Regarding research and writing, Dr. Bounds focuses on innovations in resident education and public health issues. He has recently given presentations on CHF, vertigo, efficiency in ED practice, delivery of feedback, and learning theory.

Outside of work, Dr. Bounds enjoys time with his wife and three daughters and various outdoors activities. He is also a competitive runner, cyclist, and triathlete.
