Gordon D Reed, MD grew up in Richardson, Texas, during the glory days of the Dallas Cowboys. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas A&M University with a BA in Biology in 1982, where he also honored as a Gathright Scholar. He returned to the Dallas area for medical school and graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas (now called UT Southwestern) in 1986. After completing his internship at Parkland Memorial Hospital in 1987, he worked as an Emergency Physician in the Dallas area until 1991. He then left Texas to complete his residency in Emergency Medicine at the Medical Center of Delaware, now called Christiana Care Health System. Since 1994 Dr. Reed has been full-time faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Christiana Care, with an academic appointment as Clinical Instructor at Thomas Jefferson University. Since 1996 he has served as the Medical Director for the Forensic Nursing Program at Christiana, which has evolved over the years to become one of the most comprehensive forensic programs in the country, currently seeing over 2000 patients per year. Members of the team evaluate patients following a variety of injuries, including sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse, burns, gunshot wounds, stab wounds and pedestrians struck by automobiles. As a member of the faculty at a busy Emergency Medicine Residency Program, Dr. Reed has enjoyed the opportunity to train hundreds of physicians over the course of his career. Away from the hospital, Dr. Reed has served as an elder in his church and currently serves as the Treasurer as well. He enjoys fitness and travel, especially when he can combine the two. He has two grown children, his beloved wife, and their standard poodle Sadie. One of his favorite quotes is that “people don’t care what you know until they know that you care.”
