Bio:
Dr. Wanner grew up in northern New Jersey, where he began his emergency medicine career as an emergency medical technician and firefighter. He attended college at Rowan University and graduate school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), earning a Master of Science degree as a physician assistant (PA) in 2005. Dr. Wanner practiced as a PA in emergency medicine for several years before returning to PCOM for medical school. He completed his emergency medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Wanner’s professional interests include disaster medicine and preparedness, public health, and medical/PA education. He serves as clinical co-chair of the ChristianaCare emergency management committee, and as a chief physician with the Delaware Division of Public Health. Since 2008, Dr. Wanner has been involved in disaster response; currently serving as a medical officer with the NJ-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team and volunteering with local disaster response organizations.
Dr. Wanner’s research and educational interests include healthcare/public health disaster preparedness, hazardous materials and pandemic response, and emergency department treatment of opioid use disorders.
Outside of work, Dr. Wanner enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, two daughters, and their dog.
