Leo Burns
Dr. Burns is from a small town in Northeast Pennsylvania. He graduated from the University of Scranton and then attended Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia where he attained a medical degree. While doing a student rotation at the Medical Center of Delaware in Wilmington, Delaware, Dr. Burns became interested in emergency medicine. He trained as a resident in the Medical Center of Delaware emergency medicine residency program and then became an attending physician with DFES. The Medical Center of Delaware has since changed its name to Christiana Care.
Dr. Burns enjoys working for DFES at Christiana Care with an exceptional medical team dedicated to high quality and compassionate patient care. When not working in the emergency department Dr. Burns likes to travel with his wife and two sons. They live in Glen Mills, PA.

Christian Coletti
A graduate of Haverford College in Haverford, PA., Christian Coletti, M.D. completed his medical training at Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Coletti completed a dual residency in Emergency/Internal Medicine and an administrative fellowship at Christiana Care Health System in Newark, De. He is expected to finish a Masters in Health Care Delivery Science from Dartmouth in January of 2016.
Dr. Coletti joined Christiana Care in 2010 as a member of the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Department of Medicine. Primarily, he is an academic faulty member in the department of emergency medicine with Doctors for Emergency Services. Dr. Coletti is the Medical Director for the Wilmington Hospital Emergency Department. In addition, Dr. Coletti is an Internal Medicine Clinic Preceptor with Christiana Care. Currently, Dr. Coletti is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency and Internal Medicine through the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. He is board certified in emergency and internal medicine and holds a current medical licensure in Delaware.
Dr. Coletti is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Medicine, the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, and the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Coletti has conducted extensive research, delivered presentations and lectures and authored and published papers in resuscitation and administrative topics. He has also contributed to patient education and community service programs.

Lauren Cooksey
Dr. Cooksey was born and raised in Landenberg, PA. She attended high school at Avon Grove High School and then completed her undergraduate education at the University of Rhode Island. She then spent a few years as a veterinary technician. Dr.
Cooksey matriculated to Temple University School of Medicine and graduated in 2012. She completed her residency training at Christiana Care.
In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, trying out new restaurants and traveling. Professionally, she is interested in end of life care.

Julie Cooper
Dr. Cooper is a native of the Philadelphia area and completed undergraduate studies at Duke University graduating cum laude with a B.S. in psychology and a neuroscience concentration. She came home to Philadelphia to attend medical school at the University of Pennsylvania where she discovered a passion for emergency medicine. She moved on to Chicago for residency at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University. As a resident she developed an interest in international medicine and completed clinical work in Guatemala, Nicaragua and Ghana. She also completed the Education in Palliative and End-of-life Care (EPEC-EM) trainer course in 2009 and began lecturing in the area of emergency department palliative care.
Dr. Cooper has been with DFES since 2011 where she has helped advance the ED palliative care program through family bereavement follow up, improved end-of-life care and coordination with hospice services. In 2015 she became a member of the core academic faculty.
In her free time, Dr. Cooper is an avid sailor racing J-27s on the Delaware River. She continues to enjoy international medicine and volunteers several weeks a year with MEDICO, a non-profit organization providing healthcare in Central America and has also volunteered in Ghana and Haiti.

Justin Eisenman
Dr. Eisenman grew up at the Jersey shore. He relocated to Philadelphia to attend Saint Joseph’s University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2003. He went on to Drexel University, where he earned a Master of Science in Biology. Dr. Eisenman participated the military health professions scholarship program for medical school. He attended Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine where he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009.
After medical school, Dr. Eisenman moved to Fort Lewis, Washington where he completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Madigan Army Medical Center. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Eisenman was assigned to Fort Polk, Louisiana where he worked as a staff physician in the Emergency Department at Bayne Jones Army Community Hospital. While stationed at Fort Polk, Dr. Eisenman deployed to Afghanistan, where he worked in support of Joint Special Operations Command. After completing his time at Fort Polk, Dr. Eisenman relocated to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he completed his Army commitment as a staff physician in Emergency Department at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital in May 2016. Upon completion of his time in the military, Dr. Eisenman moved to Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, and he joined DFES in July 2016.
Dr. Eisenman is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. In addition to this, his professional affiliations include the Wilderness Medical Society and the Special Operations Medical Association.

Ellen Finney
Ellen Finney completed medical school at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, Emergency Medicine & Family Medicine residency with Christiana Care. She has been part of the Emergency Medicine/Family Medicine Faculty starting 2016.

Kimberly Fox
Kimberly Fox grew up in Voorhees, New Jersey. She attended Duke University, where she graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Psychology and minors in Biology and Chemistry. She received her M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and stayed in Pittsburgh to complete her emergency medicine residency training at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). She served as chief resident during her final year and was a member of the Emergency Medicine Quality and Patient Safety Committee as well as the Graduate Medical Education Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Committee. She joined DFES in July 2016 and moved to Philadelphia with her husband to be closer to family. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, staying active, and spending time with family and friends.

Jenna Fredette
Jenna Fredette is originally from Rochester NY. She completed her Bachelors of Chemical Engineering at Villanova University and remains an avid Wildcat supporter today. She then went back to upstate NY to attend medical school at SUNY at Buffalo. After graduating she completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She stayed in the area and joined DFES in 2010. In 2012 she became the Associate Program Director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program and the co-Director of the Medical Education Fellowship. Her educational interests include faculty development, curriculum development, and the creation of novel learning methods. Dr. Fredette feels fortunate to be part of DFES and Christiana Care because of its unique standing as a private group that is dedicated to training some of the best residents in the country. In her downtime you can find her with her husband, twins, and dog trying to keep home less chaotic than the Emergency Department.

Leila Getto
Dr. Getto was raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, graduating from Moorestown High School in South Jersey. She attended The Pennsylvania State University where she was a Schreyer Honors scholar and majored in Nutrition Science. In the year after graduating from college, she backpacked through Europe for a month with friends and subsequently worked as a research assistant at Drexel while applying to medical school. After attending Jefferson Medical College (Sidney Kimmel Medical College) in Philadelphia, she completed her Emergency Medicine residency at Christiana Care, serving as chief resident. She has been with DFES since the completion of her training in 2008. In 2010, she became an Academic Faculty member and is currently the Director of Emergency Simulation for the residency program.
When not in the Emergency Department, Dr. Getto enjoys running, spending weekends at the Jersey shore, traveling and spending time with her family (3 year old and 1 year old sons, husband and dog).

Kate Groner
Kate Groner grew up on St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands, a place she still very much enjoys visiting. She moved to this area to attend Swarthmore College for her undergraduate education, followed by Drexel University College of Medicine. She completed her residency at Christiana and then did a fellowship in ED Administration, also at Christiana. It was such a great place to train she decided to stick around! When she is not at work, she spends her time trying to get better at rock climbing, training for or participating in mud runs or endurance events, playing with her dog, or with her husband Rob – traveling, eating good food, or just sitting on the porch enjoying the weather.

Michael Hansen
Dr. Hansen was born in Spokane, Washington but moved to Florida at a young age. He grew up playing soccer and swimming at the multiple Florida beaches. He attended University of Central Florida where he was attained a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology and Microbiology. He then went on and received his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Florida. He came to the greater Philadelphia area to couples match with his wife and completed his emergency medicine residency at Christiana Care where he was chief resident. After finishing residency, he joined DFES.
When not at work, he enjoys hiking, watching college football, working out, snowboarding, diving, playing soccer and spending time with his family. He takes every opportunity to travel and loves getting outside when he can.

Daniel Hess
Dr. Hess grew up on his family’s dairy farm in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. After high school he worked on the farm for a year before moving to Baltimore as a volunteer at a small Christian school. He then went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in 2005. During his undergraduate studies he also worked as a unit secretary at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center – a formative experience which set the stage for his interest in emergency medicine. He also spent a year living and working in the small southern African country, Swaziland. There he worked with a group doing community-based HIV/AIDS education as a participant in the service learning program of a faith-based relief and peace organization. That experience nurtured an interest in international medicine which has taken him back to Africa for medical work in Zambia and Botswana.
Dr. Hess matriculated to the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 2005 and later served on the medical student council of the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association (EMRA). Prior to graduation in 2009, he was recognized as a National Outstanding Medical Student by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). That year began his residency training in the combined emergency medicine/internal medicine residency program at Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington, Delaware. Dr. Hess served as chief resident for Emergency medicine in his 5th year of residency. Subsequently he served as the internal medicine chief resident (Assistant Chief of Service) at Christiana Care the following year while working part-time as an emergency physician with DFES.
Dr. Hess lives in Wilmington with his wife and children and enjoys the outdoors, playing with his kids and home improvement projects.

Robert Hsu
A recent residency graduate from EM residency program at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Rob Hsu was raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Johns Hopkins University. After college, Rob lived in D.C. and worked as a research associate for the AAMC under the Division of Physician Workforce Studies. He then traveled back to complete his medical school education at the University of Cincinnati prior to returning to the east coast for residency. His professional interests include medical education and quality/administration.
Rob and his wife Bethany live Philadelphia, where she works as an attorney (the good kind). In his time outside of work, his hobbies include golf, snowboarding, and cheering for losing Cleveland sports teams.

Steve Koczirka
Dr. Koczirka grew up in Pennsylvania in the Delaware Valley. He attended the University of Delaware and graduated with degrees in Biology and an Honors degree in Liberal Studies. He earned his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He then went on to train in emergency medicine with the Christiana Care Emergency Residency Program. During his time in residency he was active with the EMS system and presented research at SAEM, ACEP and NAEMSP. Upon graduating, Dr. Koczirka joined DFES, and is currently active on the Operations Committee and participates in resident education.
When not working, Dr. Koczirka enjoys photography, traveling, and outdoor activities. He resides in Wilmington with his wife.

Steve Kushner
Dr. Kushner grew up in the borough of Queens, NYC. At 14 years old he joined the first of what would be five EMS/Fire-Rescue Squads (BLS and ALS) that he served with from Junior High School through the first two years of medical school.
Dr. Kushner attended Cornell University in beautiful Ithaca, NY for his undergraduate degree in microbiology. He then moved to New York City where he worked for four years as a Senior Research Technician at the Radiologic Research Laboratory at the College of Physician & Surgeons of Columbia University. During that time he also earned his Master of Public Health degree from the Columbia University School of Public Health.
Dr. Kushner then returned to upstate New York to attend medical school at the State University of New York, Health Science Center at Syracuse. Upon graduation, Dr. Kushner moved to his current home in Delaware where he completed his Residency in Emergency Medicine. This was followed by a Research Fellowship at the Clinical Pharmacology Research Center (formerly the Medical Research Institute of Delaware) on the Medical Center of Delaware campus. Dr. Kushner then worked as the Research Center Staff Physician for an additional year. As a Fellow and Research Staff Physician, Dr. Kushner worked clinical shifts for DFES part time, before coming on full-time with DFES in 1996.
In addition to his Emergency Department duties, Dr. Kushner has served as a member of the Christiana Care Institutional Review Board (IRB) since 1999, becoming Co-Chair as of July 2012.
When not working, Dr. Kushner enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter and their three cats. One of his passions is music, including playing the piano and guitar. He played piano professionally in a wedding/dinner-dance band during high school and on college breaks. He continues to enjoy playing and feels privileged to have been asked to play the piano during the cocktail hours for the DFES 40th and 45th Anniversary dinners, the Christiana Care Medical-Dental Staff Dinner in 2014, and the Westside Health Center 25th Anniversary Gala in 2013.

Brian Levine
A graduate of Drew University in Madison, NJ, Brian Jay Levine, M.D. attended medical school at the University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington, VT. Dr. Levine completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the former Medical Center of Delaware, now Christiana Care Health System, in Wilmington, DE. He served as chief resident during his final year.
Dr. Levine joined Christiana Care Health System’s Department of Emergency Medicine in 1998 where he is now the Program Director of the Emergency Medicine Residency. Dr. Levine is the associate medical director of Christiana Care’s LifeNet aeromedical transport program.
Currently, he is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Levine has authored the Emergency Medicine Residency Association’s antibiotic guide for the past four editions. Currently, he recently completed the 2015 edition and has incorporating the entire residency into playing a substantial role in the book. The residency has agreed to author the 2017 guide as well.
Dr. Levine is an active member of the pharmacy and therapeutic committees for both the state Medicaid system and Christiana Care.

Jon McGhee
A graduate of the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, IN, Jonathan McGhee, D.O., FACEP completed his medical training at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. McGhee completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at the Christiana Care Health System in Newark, DE. Dr. McGhee joined Doctors for Emergency Service in 2004 where he is now an academic faculty member in the Christiana Care Department of Emergency Medicine as well as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. He is board certified and holds current medical licensures in Delaware and Pennsylvania. Dr. McGhee is a member of the Medical Society of Delaware where he serves as a member of the Government Affairs Committee, and is a Past President of the Delaware Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. In his free time, Dr. McGhee enjoys running and playing soccer. He is also father to 2 wonderful children and husband to a fellow physician, Karen (who is always his better half), in the DE community.

Jen Mink
Dr. Mink was born and raised in New Jersey, later moving to Pennsylvania for High School where she remained, receiving a BS in Biology from The Pennsylvania State University and her medical degree from The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Following medical school, she moved to Delaware, completing her residency training in Emergency Medicine at Christiana Care Health System and finding her niche in Point of Care Ultrasound. After completion of her fellowship in POC Ultrasound, she joined DFES as a full-time attending physician and as Ultrasound Faculty for the Emergency Medicine Residency. Dr. Mink currently acts as the Emergency POC Ultrasound Director for the CCHS Middletown Emergency Department. In her free time, Dr. Mink enjoys spending time with her family, being active outdoors, and cooking.

Jason Nace
Jason Nace was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, where he attended McDonogh School. He received his undergraduate degree at Colgate University, and then went to medical school at the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) in Richmond. His interest in doing a combined residency in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine (EM/IM) brought him to Christiana (then Medical Center of Delaware) as a fourth year medical student, where he ultimately matched for the combined residency in 1997. After serving as chief resident in the EM program, Jason became the first graduate to work for DFES and the department of Medicine, as a hospitalist. After two years, he became full-time with DFES, but continues to work in the Medicine department, as a preceptor in the EM/IM residents’ clinic.
Besides staying as involved as possible with the EM/IM program as the assistant program director, Dr. Nace also has a special interest in Observation Medicine. He has been the medical director of the former Clinical Decision Unit at Christiana, and now holds the same position in the Emergency Department Observation Unit. He enjoys the challenges of wearing many different hats within the CCHS community.
He lives in the bustling city of Wilmington, Delaware, and enjoys spending time with his wife and three children.

Jason Nomura
Dr. Nomura grew up in Hawai’i attending the University of Hawai’i graduating with Honors. He then went onto to receive his medical degree at the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. He then left to complete his combined residency in Emergency and Internal Medicine at Christiana Care Health System where he also served as Chief Resident and completed a Fellowship in Emergency Medicine Ultrasound.
Dr. Nomura remained in Delaware and joined Doctors for Emergency Service and serves as faculty in the Emergency Medicine residency programs. He also serves as the Director of the Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Fellowship that is operated by DFES in conjunction with Christiana Care.
When not providing clinical care you can find Dr. Nomura on social media, contributing to #FOAMed, and enjoying good food at various venues.

Arayel Osborn
Arayel Osborne grew up in Norwood, Massachusetts. She then went to Emory University where she majored in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology. While in college, Arayel became an EMT and served as a member and then assistant chief of the campus EMS unit. After college, she moved to Philadelphia and for two years worked as an emergency department tech full-time and EMT part time. Arayel then attended Jefferson Medical College where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at Christiana Care Health System. She joined DFES in 2012.
When not at work, Arayel enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters. She also enjoys cooking, exercising and a good glass of wine.

Anuj Parikh
Dr. Parikh was raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee and moved to Delaware before high school. After graduating from Newark High School, he attended the University of Delaware where he majored in Biology and Liberal Studies and graduated with an Advanced Honors Certificate. He then matriculated to Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and also completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
Upon graduating from residency, Dr. Parikh returned to Chattanooga with his wife. While in Chattanooga he had many unique opportunities including being a medical director at a small community hospital, starting a new Emergency Medicine residency program from scratch where he was the Associate Program Director, and then becoming the medical director of a mid-volume community hospital. He is also a graduate of the ACEP Teaching Fellowship. After 8 years in Tennessee, Dr. Parikh moved back to the area in 2013 to join DFES as a full-time clinical physician. He works at Christiana Hospital, Wilmington Hospital, and the Middletown Emergency Department. His clinical interests are patient satisfaction, clinical toxicology, community/free-standing emergency medicine, and accelerated chest pain evaluation protocols.
He lives with his wife and two children in southeastern Pennsylvania. In his free time he is a vintner, a dawning marine aquarist, and a gardener. His real passion, however, is travel and he makes a point to try and at least make one international trip and one domestic trip annually with his family. He has visited over 20 countries and 28 states. Working for DFES allows him the flexibility to focus on his career, his family, as well as his interests.

Brent Passarello
Dr. Brent Passarello was raised outside of Pittsburgh in the booming metropolis of Washington, Pennsylvania. He attended high school at Immaculate Conception and then completed his undergraduate education at Dickinson College. He graduated with an economics degree, worked for his family business for a year and then opted to pursue a medical degree. He completed a post-baccalaureate program at Bryn Mawr College and then matriculated at Thomas Jefferson University (aka The Sidney Kimmel Medical College – Thomas Jefferson University) and graduated in 1997. He did his residency at Christiana Care and became a full time member of DFES upon graduating. He is a full time academic member of the group and has served as the medical student clerkship director for over 10 years. His non-academic roles with the group primarily focus primarily on management of our department’s super user population. In his spare time he enjoys time with family, golf, and an occasional game of basketball and paddle tennis.

John Powell
A native downstate Delawarean, John Thomas Powell, MD, FACEP, attended Sussex Central High School. He graduated from the University of Delaware and then worked with the Advisory Board Company before pursuing medical training at Jefferson Medical College.
Dr. Powell completed a surgical internship at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. He then attended the Naval Undersea Medical Institute in Groton, CT and the Navy Diving Salvage and Training Center in Panama City, FL where he studied radiation health, submarine and diving medicine. He served active duty in the US Navy as a Diving Medical Officer with Submarine Squadron 22 in La Maddalena, Italy and later with Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group and Mobile Unit TWO in Little Creek, VA before entering residency.
Dr. Powell completed a residency in Emergency Medicine and a fellowship in Emergency and Point-of-Care Ultrasound at Christiana Care Health System in Newark, DE. In 2014, he completed his Masters in Health Care Delivery Science through Dartmouth College. He is the Medical Director of the Christiana Emergency Department.
Dr. Powell married Jennifer Wilds in 2002, and the couple has two children. He spends his free time with family or running, rucking, shooting and occasionally climbing.

Gordon Reed
Gordon D Reed, MD grew up in Richardson, Texas, during the glory days of the Dallas Cowboys. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas A&M University with a BA in Biology in 1982, where he also honored as a Gathright Scholar. He returned to the Dallas area for medical school and graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas (now called UT Southwestern) in 1986. After completing his internship at Parkland Memorial Hospital in 1987, he worked as an Emergency Physician in the Dallas area until 1991. He then left Texas to complete his residency in Emergency Medicine at the Medical Center of Delaware, now called Christiana Care Health System.
Since 1994 Dr. Reed has been full-time faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Christiana Care, with an academic appointment as Clinical Instructor at Thomas Jefferson University. Since 1996 he has served as the Medical Director for the Forensic Nursing Program at Christiana, which has evolved over the years to become one of the most comprehensive forensic programs in the country, currently seeing over 2000 patients per year. Members of the team evaluate patients following a variety of injuries, including sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse, burns, gunshot wounds, stab wounds and pedestrians struck by automobiles. As a member of the faculty at a busy Emergency Medicine Residency Program, Dr. Reed has enjoyed the opportunity to train hundreds of physicians over the course of his career.
Away from the hospital, Dr. Reed has served as an elder in his church and currently serves as the Treasurer as well. He enjoys fitness and travel, especially when he can combine the two. He has two grown children, his beloved wife, and their standard poodle Sadie. One of his favorite quotes is that “people don’t care what you know until they know that you care.”

Kristina Stransky
Growing up just outside of Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Stransky spent some time out west prior to completing her undergraduate degree in Chem-Bio at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. After college she attended Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and graduated with honors. Wanting to remain in the Philadelphia area, Dr. Stransky went on to complete her residency in Emergency Medicine at Christiana Care Health System. Serving as Chief Resident strengthened her desire to stay on after graduation with Doctors For Emergency Services. Joining the group in 2011, she enjoys the dynamic practice, working in both urban and suburban settings, teaching residents while practicing community medicine. She is proud to be a member of DFES, committed to providing excellent patient care together with the other physicians, nurses, residents and hospital staff that make up the Christiana Care team. When not at work she enjoys yoga and spending time with her family outdoors and at the beach.

Tom Sweeney
Tom Sweeney graduated from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina before joining DFES in 1993. He had a long-standing interest in Emergency Medical Services and chaired the Emergency Management Committee (then the Disaster Committee of the Medical Center of Delaware), served as the first medical director of the Mobile Intensive Care Nurse Team, the first EMS medical director of the Delaware State Fire Prevention Commission, and then served as the New Castle County EMS Medical Director. In 2001 Dr. Reese asked him to assume the position of Associate Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine, a role that he has enjoyed since. In 2010 he earned a masters degree from Carnegie Mellon University in medical management. He has served as a site reviewer for the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma and chairs the board of directors of Westside Family Healthcare, a federally qualified health center with over 200 employees, the largest primary care practice in Delaware. He speaks fluent German and enjoys visiting family with his wife and three daughters in her homeland of South Tyrol, where only the hiking is better than the wine. Tom Sweeney was elected President of DFES in 2020.

Greg Wanner
Dr. Wanner grew up in northern New Jersey, where he began his emergency medicine career as an emergency medical technician and firefighter. He attended college at Rowan University and graduate school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), earning a Master of Science degree as a physician assistant in 2005. Dr. Wanner practiced as a physician assistant (PA) in emergency medicine for several years before returning to PCOM for medical school. He completed his emergency medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Wanner’s professional interests include medical education and disaster medicine. Since 2006 he has been actively involved in physician assistant education as an adjunct faculty member and visiting lecturer at two local PA schools. He has also been involved in disaster medicine and disaster preparedness since 2008. He currently serves in the National Disaster Medical System with the New Jersey Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT NJ-1) and he volunteers with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Surge Medical Assistance Response Team (SMART/SMAT#3). Additionally, he serves as a member of the ACEP Disaster Preparedness & Response Committee.
Dr. Wanner’s research interests include developing novel educational methods in simulation, disaster medical education, and the integration of social media into medical education.
Outside of work, Dr. Wanner enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife—also an emergency physician—and their two daughters.

Eli Zeserson
Eli Zeserson grew up in upstate New York first in Woodstock then in Ithaca for high school. He then ventured west graduating from UCLA with an English major. After a few years working as ski instructor and medical assistant as the Lake Tahoe Orthopedic Institute he came back east for medical school at Jefferson where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He stayed in Philadelphia and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania where he was chief resident.
His first job out of residency was with DFES at Christiana and he has been here ever since. He particularly likes the blend of academic and community medicine, working with the incredible residents, the diverse patient population and the vast research opportunities. When not working, he can be found spending time with wife Melissa and their three young children. He also always makes sure to fit in some skiing, mountain biking, running, home brewing and grilling on his Big Green Egg.

George Zlupko
Dr. Zlupko was born and raised in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The oldest of 4 brothers, George comes from a ‘medical’ family as his father and youngest brother are pulmonologist/ critical care specialists and his other brother is an OB/Gyn.
George obtained his BA at Harvard University in 1989, where he was also Vice President of the Hasty Pudding Theatricals (insert “likes to cross-dress”) and did the underground circuit in stand-up comedy in Cambridge, MA.. He got his MD in 1993 at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA and completed his Emergency Medicine residency in 1996 at the Medical Center of Delaware, where he was chief resident.
George worked for a year at Episcopal Hospital in northeast Philadelphia before joining DFES full-time back in Delaware in 1997. George has a special clinical interest in wound healing and has been a staff member of the Christiana Wound Care Center since 1998. He received his diploma in Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine in 2010.
George is married to Dr. Lani Nelson-Zlupko (Harvard ’89), who has a thriving clinical therapy practice in north Wilmington, and has three wonderful children, Gian, Tyler, and Talia. When he is not saving lives or disimpacting people, George is the lead-singer and blues harpist for Runnin’ Late, that famous Wilmington band ‘everyone is talking about’.
